Eileen watched a video in a weekly newsletter and got a big surprise!

Eileen Adler was recognized by Makers Mercantile (a yarn and a craft supply purveyor) last April as a “Makers’ Hero” for her philanthropic work through the years with her “Softies” or “Bust Buddies” (Eileen’s version of Knitted Knockers). Eileen learned of Makers’ recognition when she watched a video in Makers’ weekly newsletter. What a surprise! If you are interested in watching the video, contact Eileen Adler (email address in the directory) to congratulate her and ask for a link to the video. I’m sure she will share it. As part of Makers’ recognition, Eileen received a project bag full of CoBaSi yarn.

As many of you know, Eileen worked tirelessly for the Guild for years, first as the Philanthropy Coordinator, then as a sub-coordinator focusing on her Softies project before retiring in June of 2020. As the Bust Buddies Project Coordinator, Eileen organized multiple knit-alongs for Guild members each year where she provided lessons in knitting in the round, yarn for knitting softies, patterns, and even gave annual awards to the most prolific participants. She has collected and distributed thousands of those soft protheses to local breast cancer clinics, and had a booth each year at Susan G. Komen’s annual breast cancer Walk for the Cure event where Bust Buddies were given away to grateful cancer patients.
Forced to retire in 2020 due to family illness, Eileen writes, designs patterns, and maintains a website and blog at EileenAdler.com. She still participates in the Guild as a member. In honor of Eileen, the Guild continues to maintain a page titled “Bust Buddies and Softies” located under the Philanthropy tab. You can view the page here.
