TKGA: The Knitting Guild Association
The Knitting Guild Association (TKGA) is a nonprofit organization devoted to helping knitters grow their skills, preserve traditional techniques, and uphold the artistry and quality of hand knitting through education and shared resources.
What is the Knitting Guild Association (TKGA)?
The Knitting Guild Association—often called the mother of all knitting guilds—is the national organization that supports knitters at every level. Our own San Diego North Coast Knitters is a member guild, and TKGA also offers individual memberships.
More Than the Master Knitting Program
While TKGA is well known for its Master Knitting Program, that’s just the beginning. They offer a wide range of educational opportunities for knitters who want to grow their skills—or even turn knitting into a profession.
Cerification Programs
TKGA offers certification programs for:
- Knitwear Designers
- Knitting Judges (yes, the kind you see at county fairs!)
- Technical Editors
- Knitting Instructors
- Professional Knitters
Mini Courses: Learn in Small, Focused Steps
There are 26 Mini Courses, each requiring only five swatches. You submit your work via uploaded photos, and your instructor provides guidance and feedback along the way.
Each course also has its own chat room, where you can connect with classmates, compare notes, and help one another.
Hand Knitting Course
The Hand Knitting Course is perfect for beginners. It starts with the basics and gradually builds skills such as gauge, seaming, and other essential techniques.
Membership Benefits
Benefits include vendor discounts, newsletters, knit-alongs (KALs), online meetings, and much more.
