Share Your Knitting

June 30, 2020

Share Your Knitting!

In this strange time of distancing, we as knitters must be thankful for our craft as well as the crafters in our special circle of friends. We all speak “knitting – yarn.” But now that circle is obscure and those friends may be out of touch, physically and emotionally. This week, as you pick up another unfinished project to finish that may have been set aside a year ago or as you get tempted yet again to buy some luscious new yarn online and await its arrival in your mailbox as a well-earned gift to yourself, also think about the possibilities you have to reach out to your fellow knitters. We all miss our monthly meetings in Encinitas with Show and Share and the introductions to knitting experts who travel to San Diego to teach us a thing or two at a workshop. We will miss the Stash Sale this summer with the mad dash to get a bargain. Many of us are anxiously considering the Summer Retreat in August – if it will happen [Note: as of this writing, it is still on, kln] and should we attend.

But knitting is still alive and very active at SDNCKG. The Guild Website includes a Virtual Show and Share that our Webmaster, Kerry Nare, prepares monthly. Send a photo with details to Kerry to show all of us what you have completed recently. Show off your work. We now have Sub groups meeting with modern technology. WhatsApp and Zoom have helped unite most of these official groups as well as other informal knitting friends on a weekly basis. Don’t be shy. If you want to knit with others as before, you can. Call a knitting friend and learn what you need to do to reconnect. Personally, I am meeting virtually with three sub groups and in these times, I look forward to those virtual chats more than ever. Contact information for Sub Groups can be found in your membership directory.

Please get into the habit of reading the Website and checking back for updates. It is a wonderful resource for you and you may just be surprised to see how much it has to offer. Share your knitting. We miss you.
