Jean Degenfelder of Jean’s Handwovens is the guest speaker at our November Guild meeting on Tuesday, November 3. The next day, Jean will lead a felting workshop. Sign-ups for the workshop close Tuesday, October 27.
Jean is a local handweaver and designer with a passion for color and fiber. She shares her passion in classrooms throughout San Diego County. During the summer, she operates a summer school for young artists at her studio, which is housed in a yurt at her family compound near Lake Hodges.
At the meeting she’ll share her adventures collecting textiles around the world and show how they have influenced her work and creativity through the years. She’ll bring examples of textiles she has collected while on the journey. She’ll also describe her experiences learning to make felt in Konya, Turkey, from a fourth-generation master. Inspired Felting Workshop
On Wednesday, Jean will lead an Inspired Felting workshop. Use ancient techniques to make a felt square for a pillow top, seat cushion or wall hanging. You will “paint” with wool roving using colored merino wool for your own design. Then you’ll use your own muscle power to complete the process. This workshop requires standing and some physical exertion. There’s no homework, and handouts and materials will be provided. You must sign up for the workshop by October 27. More information about signing up is on the Event page.
