June 2023 Philanthropy News

Philanthropy News for June 2023

Philanthropy = Love for humankind

What fun to see all the lovely fibers being exchanged at our June 2023 Stash Sale! Reading the report on it, I was delighted to see the various groups receiving yarn for their philanthropic efforts as well.

2023 Donated Hats

This month I delivered hats to Palomar Health for their use in supporting people who lost hair due to medical treatments. They were excited to receive our contribution – made from weights, designs, and fibers suitable for warmer weather.

Donated Swatches

I also delivered the swatches you all provided. Thanks for your prompt response! They are given out by Palomar Health Chaplains who refer to them as “prayer squares”. Such a pleasure to give them something useful from items we already make for our own projects!

Lastly, it was great to give scarves for the low-income children who will receive them as gifts, thanks to the connection of our very own co-President Tania Marshall. More are welcome!

Please feel free to make things for your favorite charity. If you send them on your own, we just ask that you tell us so we can continue to inspire others. Perhaps make a scarf or hat to test out a new technique or stitch.

You likely have yarn in your stash for potential philanthropic items. Scarves and hats in particular, of all colors and fiber types are welcomed by local charitable organizations, and are a terrific way to use up small quantities in stripes or other techniques. Of course, those gauge swatches aka prayer squares are terrific, as are blankets large and small. (And crocheted items are welcome too!) We just need to make sure to label items with washing instructions. (A Guild hang-tag label for writing on can be down loaded here.)

There is a place for all of these items, made of a variety of fibers and appreciated by the recipients.

If you have a favorite charity you already support, please let me know. Feedback is a gift ;o).
