Our First Speaker of the Year Was Mary Martin
Mary W. Martin showed us glimpses of her engineer trained mind with her unique methods for stunning reversible knitting designs.
During the February general meeting, she took us on her journey of discovering and perfecting Fission and Fusion Knitting.
She started out by experimenting with two color designs meant for one side of her knitting when her husband, of all people, remarked that the motif she’d created did not show on the other side of her work. That was the impetus for her to figure out how to get a motif to appear on both sides, then on to different designs on each side. Once she conquered two color reversible knitting, she wowed us with three, four and six color projects.
Mary brought many samples for us to see and touch. To further inspire us, our own Sue Zois showed us an amazing example of Fusion Knitting, the Got Your Back Shawl.
Mary posted an item on her Instagram page, commenting on our Guild, and her visit (read it below.)
