Guild’s Participation in the 2023 County Fair
The Guild’s participation in the 2023 San Diego County Fair was a great success, largely in part to the determined efforts of Renate Kamm, our co-president. She arranged for the Guild to award prizes in three categories. As a published author of numerous patterns, including the one on the cover of Summer 2021 Interweave Knits, she was also the best choice to judge whose work deserved those prizes. Before the Fair opened to the public, she traveled several times to Del Mar for the judging, then the award ceremony. She also arranged for the Guild to have a presence on June 10th, Worldwide Knit in Public Day.
The Guild awarded $50 and a year’s membership for Original Design and another for Workmanship. We were especially pleased to award $50 to the Best Effort in Youth Knitting, ages 5 to 11.
June 10th at the Fair was great fun. We were assigned a living room style corner in the Make and Take area of the Home Made area of the Exhibit Hall. Eight volunteers covered the two shifts from 12 to 3 and 4 to 7pm. We had so many people stop to visit with us and others came to try their hand at knitting. I am not sure who had a better time, the Guild members or the Fair goers. Many thanks to Renate Kamm, Tania Marshall, Karen des Jardins, Sally Yeater, Jan Davis, Rebecca Johnson, Daniela Ito, and Ann Sloop.
