November Virtual Show and Share

November 16, 2020

November Activities – What’s on Your Needles?

Show and Share is currently a virtual activity. The gallery includes Knit@Nite photos.

To participate, send your photos and descriptions to Kerry Nare – either via email or text message (Kerry’s direct email address and phone number can be found in the Guild Directory.) Image file sizes should be as large as possible for clarity (ideally greater than 500 kb please.) Include a description of your project, pattern and designer name, yarn used, how you came to knit your project, and any other information you wish viewers to know. Items received after November 30th will be included in December’s Virtual Show and Share.

Click on any photo in the Gallery to enlarge or start a slide show, then scroll down to read details regarding the photos. For convenience, new photos will be added at the beginning of the gallery as they arrive, so check back periodically.

After you view this month’s photos, check out the new compendium of Guild Photo Galleries, found on the drop-down menu under the Guild Info tab.

Details regarding project photos:

Photos (2) Renate Kamm – Sweaters
“I have two finished sweaters to share with the guild members.
1) My Genting Pullover – it is knitted with the original yarn from Mrs. Crosby Hat Box, but I decided to make it in the color African Grey. The pattern is my own design which was published in Knit.wear Wool Studio Volume VIII, this summer.
2) My Javelin Yoke sweater – It is knitted with the original yarn from The Fibre Co. Arranmore Light, made in Narin Beach color. The pattern is my own design, which was published in The Knitting Guild Association’s Cast On Magazine, Winter 2020-2021 in November this year.”

Photo (1) Alice Chary – Buttery Fly Shawl finished.
A sneak peek of this striking shawl was posted earlier (see below.) The Papillon or the Butterly shawl was designed by Marin Melchior. Alice knit hers in Round Mountain Fibers Spruce Fingering; the colorway is Chipping Sparrow, part of their bird collection. The black yarn is Brooklyn Tweed Peerie.

Photo (1) Linda Berger –  Scofidio pullover
Scofidio is the pattern name, the designer is Fiona Alice. Knit in BAAH La Jolla.

Photos (2) Sue Zois – Genentically Linked Scarf
Sue Zois test knit the Genetically Linked Scarf for Mary Martin, our new member from Toronto, Canada. It uses Mary’s reversible cabling technique which results in a different cable pattern on each side. Two fingering weight yarns are marled together as the background, but only one strand is used for the design feature (cable). Through the use of slipped stitches and the single strand cable, the design feature appears to float on top of the fabric.

Mary is currently hosting the Family Connections KAL, your choice of 3 similar patterns, in her Ravelry forum, Mary W Martin Knits.

Photos (2) Patt Miller – Spread Your Wings shawl
“The pattern is Spread Your Wings by Sharyn Anhalt and Beverely Mazzarella. The body of the shawl was knit in Berroco Remix Light and the ruffle in Berroco Medina. This was a kit I found on YarnScout.com, a small family business owned by Sharyn Anhalt.

Photos (2) Susan Johansen – Dress for Chloe
Susan Johansen loves knitting dresses for her granddaughter, Chloe, and Chloe loves wearing them. Chloe is modeling Susan’s latest creation. “The pattern is Summer Feeling by Drops designs. The yarn is Drops Muskat by Garnstudio, a DK mercerized cotton. I knit this for Chloe’s 13th birthday.”

Photos (2) Deb Cravets – Gold Cardigan and Red Pullover
The gold etc. cardigan pattern name is Penga. The designer is Emma Wright and the pattern is from the Rowan Magazine No. 65.  The yarn is Rowan Creative Linen in mustard, stormy, natural, teal and raspberry.

The dark red pullover pattern name is Suolaulu. The designer is Jenna K., Ravelry ID ihtiriekkoknits. The main color is Anzula Squishy in black cherry and the contrast color is Madeleine Tosh Sock in rose.

Photo (1) – Alice Chary Butterfly Shawl Sneak Peek
Alice is still working on this, but I just had to post Alice’s striking version of The Butterfly. Watch for a final photo with detailed information after the shawl is completed and blocked.

Photos (2) – Beth Carnett Departure Shawl
The pattern is called Departure, designed by Anne Jones. The pattern can be found in Vogue Knitting Magazine, Spring/Summer 2020. The yarn used is Koigu Wool Design Pencil Box.  Knit by Beth, blocked by Carol Myers.

Photo (1) – Laura Brubaker  Slip Stitch Extravaganza MKAL
Slip Stitch Extravaganza MKAL 2020, designer Stephen West. All the yarn was is in Laura’s stash, and two of them were purchased on trips to North Ireland and The Republic of Ireland. (MC) Turquoise/aqua is Madelinetosh Tosh Sock, color Nassau Blue; (CC) Baah Yarn La Jolla, Pink; (CC) Life in the Long Grass LITLG Semi Solid Sock (golden yellow); (CC) Townhouse Yarns Camden Tweed (Purple).
