When chatting with fellow knitters, the conversation occasionally turns to favorite podcasts (which can be audio or video) or blogs (which are similar, but generally offer only a written conversation or review). I have favorites in both categories but in this article I would like to mention my favorite podcast and perhaps other Knitting Guild members would like to chime in to offer other suggestions to our fellow knitting members.
At the recent knitting retreat, I recommended this favorite podcast to another attendee and today, while listening to the current edition, I am reminded how much I enjoy it. “Fruity Knitting” may have the strangest name but I think it offers the most informative podcast and is presented in a very professional format. The creators, Andrew and Andrea Doig, are so serious about their biweekly presentation, they invite listeners to voluntarily become patrons for a nominal annual fee which supports them in the time-consuming production. The reward for becoming a patron and supporting this quality podcast includes sizeable discounts on yarn and patterns from knitting designers and yarn companies that are featured on the podcast. The format includes extensive interviews with knitting designers that are well known in the knitting world; this week was Melanie Berg. They also visit international venues or yarn fests and sheep farms.
Fruity Knitting podcasts boasts over 5700 listeners, they are approximately 180 minutes in length and available through YouTube. I am always knitting while watching their Podcasts for double “fruity knitting.” Try it and tell me what you think or what your favorite podcast may be. Membership@SanDiegoKnitters.com
