Another feature made possible by our new website: improving (and automating) the way new members are welcomed to the Guild.
Before: New members received a copy of the most recent News Blast with a quick note from the Webmaster.
Now: A robust, standardized set of communications introduces new members to the features and benefits of their Guild membership.
When someone new to the Guild purchases a membership, they automatically receive a New Account email that:
- Welcomes them to the Guild
- Provides their website log-in
- Directs them to the newly created New Member Welcome & Getting Started Guide
- And reminds them to watch for a confirmation email if they wish to receive the News Blast.
New Member Welcome & Getting Started Guide
This is a complete onboarding guide that appears in the Membership Dashboard of members new to the Guild. Placed under Workshop & Event Resources, it can be maintained and updated as needed. In addition to a personal welcome from the current Guild President, the guide includes the practical information a new member needs:
- Our standard meeting schedule and location
- What to do when attending their first meeting
- Name badge information
- How to use the website Membership Dashboard
- Where to find workshop and event resources
- And how to confirm and manage their News Blast subscription.
In a nutshell:
Member joins → receives the automatic New Account email → is directed to the New Member Welcome & Getting Started Guide → confirms their News Blast subscription (if they opted in) → receives the next regularly scheduled News Blast.
This new process allows the Guild to welcome new members in a useful, consistent way. It’s easy to update as we evolve and takes a manual workload off our volunteers’ shoulders. Win win!
