Simone Kereit Workshop 4

Thursday, November 7, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Short Rows – 5 Different Methods

Learn 5 different ways for doing short rows and get to know the advantages and applications of using these different methods. You will start with the Wrap and Turn (w&t) method, the most familiar method. Then you will explore different ways to make your short rows blend into different fabrics, by exploring the German, Japanese, Yarn Over and Twin Stitch/Shadow Wrap methods. You will knit some swatches to internalize the different methods and if time permits, discuss where to use short rows if they are not already in the pattern and why, or when you might want to use a different method than wrap and turn now that you have your tool box filled with new tricks!
Level of Experience: Intermediate.

Skills Needed: Participants should know how to knit, purl, cast on and bind off.

Techniques Covered:
*Wrap and Turn Short Rows
*German Short Rows
*Japanese Short Rows
*Yarn Over Method
*Twin Stitch/Shadow Wrap Method (Simone’s personal favorite).

Homework: Please make and bring 2 small swatches, worked in a smooth DK or Worsted weight yarn.  Bring them to class, still on the needles.

Swatch 1: Cast on 26 sts and work in stockinette stitch with a 3 st garter edge: knit on RS rows. WS rows: K3, then purl to last 3 sts, K3. Knit 6 rows.

Swatch 2: Cast on 26 sts and work in garter stitch.  Knit on both RS and WS rows.  Knit 6 rows.

Materials To Bring to Class: Swatches (see above) and a second color DK or worsted weight yarn similar to the one used for the swatch. Appropriately sized needles for your weight of yarn. Removable stitch markers or safety pins (about 10 – 15). General knitting notions (such as darning needle and scissors, etc.)

Cost: $30 for members ($55 for non-members which includes Guild membership through 2019)
