Molly Conroy-Ungerecht – Workshop 1

Wednesday, August 7 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Success with Plant-Based Fibers

When we first learn to knit, we are often told to not use plant-based fibers—especially cotton. We are told many horror stories— it will hurt your hands, it will grow like mad, you will hate working with it, it won’t keep its shape, etc. But all it takes to be successful with plant-based yarns is knowledge. We will talk about the nature of the fibers, how to work with them, how to pick patterns, and how to substitute yarns. The workshop comes with a kit and a pattern.

Meeting Format: Lecture and hands-on learning

Length of Class: 2 hours

Level of Experience:  Beginner

Class Handout: The class handout and pattern will be provided in advance to registered students.

• Class handout and pattern
• US#8 knitting needle. Alternatively, bring a variety of needles from US#3 to US#8 to try different fabrics.
