The World of ARNE & CARLOS: Finding Inspiration for Design

Scandinavian designers ARNE & CARLOS have gained a passionate international following, not only through their collaborations with well-known names such as Comme des Garçons, Urban Outfitters, Dale of Norway, Regia, and Rowan, but also their 10 bestselling books, numerous online tutorials, and their top-rated Podcast, “Sit and Knit for a Bit,” on YouTube.

It is in their books and videos that we are warmly welcomed into their vibrant, colourful, creative world, which is based in a renovated train station in the Valdres region of Norway, north of Oslo. In the comfort of their inspiring home, we see glimpses of their eclectic collections of memorabilia and the rich variety of materials and patterns that surround them. Coupled with the beauty of the scenic natural world outside, these blend to spark their ever-active imaginations and are the inspiration for their hugely popular handcraft designs. They strive to reflect their enthusiasm for finding new ways to value the old, as well as their commitment to developing innovative ideas that are wholly their own.

In this engaging lecture, ARNE & CARLOS speak frankly about the way they live, and how every one of us can be inspired by the everyday things that surround us. Learn how to create fabulous, unique knitting and crochet designs, as well as other projects, using their unique lifestyle techniques, and walk away energized and ready to bring your own original ideas to life.

Meeting Registration: 

Due to the anticipated demand and facility seating limitations (150 maximum), all attendees must be paid members and register in advance of the meeting. Registrations will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Update – guaranteed seating is full, but you can be added to the wait list in case of cancellations.

How to Register: Email Programs AT SanDiegoKnitters DOT com (Note: to use Guild email addresses, you’ll need to change the AT and DOT to appropriate symbols and eliminate any spaces. Guild email addresses are not clickable.) –  Be sure to include your name, your email address and a telephone number.

If spaces are available, you will receive a confirmation email with your registration ticket. You will be required to present your registration ticket at the entrance door on the day of the meeting. If spaces are unavailable, you will be notified of your status and placed on a waiting list.

Be sure to bring your registration ticket to the meeting.

Note: Doors open at 12:00 PM. The lecture will start promptly at 12:30 and end at 1:30, the entire program ending at 2:30. The meeting closes at 3:00 PM. The meeting will be held in the Encinitas Community Center, Room 142B – scroll down to the bottom of the page for address and map to the location.
