Minutes of the General Meeting
Tuesday, August 6 2019
Temple Solel

President Tina Rounsavell called the meeting to order at 12:38 pm. She welcomed new members and guests and asked that people silence their cell phones. Tina introduced Programs Co-Chair Sue Zois.

Programs Co-Chair Zois introduced speaker Margaret Tyler and her assistant-at-the-projector Patricia Mulcahy. Ms. Tyler spoke about the San Diego County Spinners and the competition, “International Back-to-Back Wool Challenge.” The competition is a timed event that requires each team to shear a sheep, spin the wool, and knit a sweater in one day. The San Diego County Spinners won the 2019 challenge with a time of 7 hours, 52 minutes, 00 seconds.

After the presentation, President Rounsavell conducted the business meeting.

Retreats: President Rounsavell announced that signups for the January 13-16, 2020, retreat in Temecula will begin at the September meeting.

Holiday luncheon: Chair Willa Cather requested a volunteer to organize the fashion show for the holiday luncheon. She explained that this is about a half-day’s work of ordering the submissions and participants into a show. She also reported that this was the last holiday luncheon that she and MarGee Farr would co-chair and asked for volunteers to chair the 2020 luncheon.

Philanthropy: Chair Ginny Newton announced that the next Knit a Square event will be on August 28. Check the website for details.

Programs: Co-Chair Sue Zois announced that the September meeting would feature Anne Berk on “Annetarsia Knits: A New Link to Intarsia” and the November meeting, Simone Kereit on “Can I Use That? Yarn and Fiber Substitution.” She announced that both Anne Berk and Simone Kereit were offering workshops and encouraged members to sign up. She reminded everyone that there will be no meeting in October because the venue is not available. Check the website for details.

Carol Myers was Master-of-Ceremony for Show & Share; Kerry Nare was the photographer.

President Rounsavell adjourned the meeting at 1:55 pm.
