Spotlight on Linda Hart
Born in San Diego, Linda has been a member of the Guild from nearly its beginning. She has served as vice president, and now enjoys selling tickets at the Holiday Luncheons. She designed the “Weaverly Scarf” available on Ravelry and plans to design more patterns to share there. She loves attending Guild meetings, workshops, and MTM sessions to develop friendships and learn more knitting techniques. You can usually find her at Guild retreats.
Her mother shared sewing, crocheting, and embroidery with her from an early age, but didn’t knit. Instead, she insisted Linda teach herself to knit from the little green “Learn How Book” that Coats & Clark’s put out for 35 cents back in the day.
Being a psychologist has given her a particular respect for the way that knitting provides the benefits of meditation – but it’s so much more fun!
In 2003, the new Solana Beach librarian asked her to lead a library knitting group there. She was apprehensive but said “Yes.” Starting with just one member, her group, “Closely Knit,” became the longest running volunteer group in the county library system and now comprises over 200 people. She sends out a bi-weekly newsletter with a knitting tip to the members of the group and she enjoys helping people with their “knitting challenges.” In 2013, she wrote her book “Closely Knit,” (the only book about a REAL knitting group!) to commemorate the wonderful times and stories that the group has shared.
She also loves painting in watercolors, cooking, and spending time with her family, especially her little granddaughter, Chaiya.
