The Guild Starts Off the Year with a Stash Sale and Cast-on Party January 9
Did you ever see so much yarn? Boxes and boxes of every kind and color of yarn imaginable, all at deep discounts. Members and guests shopped (and shopped!) for yarn on the tables around the perimeter of the room and then enjoyed the Cast-On Party at the round tables in the center. It was a chance to chat and catch up after the holidays.
Experts were available to show how to establish gauge, identify a mystery yarn, figure out confusing instructions, cast on a new project, and more. A winding station was used by those who couldn’t wait to dive in.
The source of all this wonderful yarn was Peg Patterson, a skilled knitter whom many Guild members remember from her days at Yarning for You in San Marcos. Peg’s family generously donated her huge, beautiful stash to the Guild. The result was this very special winter Stash Sale, which will go to support the many exciting programs the Guild has planned this year.

Notes from Jeannie Milliken, Stash Sale Coordinator
The Winter Stash Sale/Cast-On Party was a huge success. We raised $8,375.74 and had a lot of fun doing it! It was a combination of a wonderful group of volunteers, the gift of some fabulous yarn from Jeff and Dori Patterson, the son and daughter-in-law of Peggy Patterson and lots of great shoppers. Thanks to everyone.
The volunteers were: Carol Wells, Mary Woo, Sue Zois, Chris Ward, Laura Brubaker, Patti Fedler, Diana Rathbun, M.E. Fithian, Nancy Lerer, Amy Sheridan, Jennie Chin, Barbara Wright, Maria Gualda, Martha Parks, Becky Johnson, Susan Johansen, Diana Weyman and Sheila Kirschenbaum
Dori Patterson: When Dori walked into the sale at the ECC she said she got “goosebumps” seeing all the delighted shoppers enjoying her mother-in-law’s yarn. Peggy who knit largely at Yarning for You had collected yarn and accessories from many different places. Dori and her husband Jeff were very pleased to get the “stash” to an organization that could use it.
Shoppers: Everyone left with a good feeling about their purchases. Most of the shoppers went to the various tables to learn new skills and talk to knitting “experts” as well as fellow members.
There were shoppers being measured for correct size, others learning new ways to cast on, some were finding books with great patterns and learning about gauge.
Philanthropy: The small amount of leftover yarn was given to several organizations: Senior Center of Oceanside, Domestic Resource Women’s Center – Rilla Livingston; Norman Park Senior Center in Chula Vista – Tania Marshall; SDNCKG Guild Philanthropy – Colleen Lukoff.
Best of all we signed up lots of new members, made some friends, and enjoyed getting beautiful yarn at bargain prices. A win for everyone! Thanks to all of you who came and supported the event.
