Recap of Michele Bernstein’s Presentation to the Guild.
Michele Bernstein, our June speaker, is a knitting teacher and designer from Portland, Oregon. She has been knitting since the age of 14 and loves to design accessories using one or two skeins of yarn. Her presentation titled, “Blocking – It’s Magic!” explored why, when and how to block our knitted creations.
Through many examples, we were shown how blocking transforms our knitting. Blocking relaxes and evens out our stitches. It reduces curl in stockinette, makes assembling pieces easier and corrects the size and shape of your knitting. Blocking lacework is essential to reveal those beautiful points and patterns that you worked so hard to create.
There are many different methods used to block your knitting. Michele described her processes and whether to wet block, steam block, or when to wet, pat and dry your work. Yes, blocking is magic!
Michele designs and patterns can be found on Ravelry, Facebook, Instagram and on her website, PDXKnitterati.com.
