The 2024 Annual Stash Sale Was a Huge Success – $7500 was raised
The Stash sale held June 4th at the Encinitas Community Center was enjoyed by everyone. Lots of yarn, needles, accessories, cone yarn, knitted garments were donated and purchased by Guild members and guests alike. There was a long line at the door when it opened at 11:00 a.m. and soon everyone was shopping and appreciating the low prices and variety of items for sale.
One of the favorite tables was the Grab Bag station with tons of single balls waiting to be purchased. The task was to get as much yarn into a gallon bag, zip it and then pay the low $3 price.

Everyone found a blue aproned volunteer to add up their items for the quick and easy checkout. Our treasurer Carol Myers, Mary Woo, Sue Zois, and Mary Barranger were our cashiers and M.E. Fithian, Amy Sheridan, Julie Huebner, Sheila Kirschenbaum, Jennie Chin, Barbara Wright, Judy Bavasi, Diana Rathbun and Maria Gualda were aproned volunteers.
Diana Rathbun, Patti Felder, and Chris Ward drove the 40+ large trash bags to the ECC on Tuesday morning. In addition to the above mentioned workers, Laura Brubaker, Susan Johansen, Becky Johnson, and Theresa Kotanchek helped to sort and price. In all, twenty volunteers worked tirelessly to make this event a success.

Yarn was selected by Sandy Levin for use at the Christmas luncheon, Tania Marshall took some bags to the Norman Park Senior Center in Chula Vista, Rilla Livingston donated to the Oceanside Library Seniors Group, and Sydnie Wauson gave yarn to the El Corazon Senior Center in Oceanside whose members knit for Project Linus, Project Warm-up, chemo hats for Kaiser Permanente Patients as well as items for the women’s shelter run by Oceanside Women’s Resource Center. In addition, Colleen Lukoff, our SDNCKG Philanthropy chair, shared with charity crafting friends, Karen Bochinski personally makes charity items, and Julie Huebner will give yarn to the Solana Beach Presbyterian Church Seniors.
The goal is to distribute all the leftover yarn to the many individuals and organizations knitting for charity. It’s wonderful to see yarn go out the door to be used. What a gift! Please know that when you donate your yarn none of it will be wasted. Thanks to the generosity of members and friends, we have raised a combined $16,000 at the January and June Stash Sale events which enables us to have quality SDNCKG programs each month.
