September 2024 Show and Share - San Diego North Coast Knitters Guild

SEPTEMBER ACTIVITIES – WHAT’S ON YOUR NEEDLES?

The October 1 Guild meeting will be in person, so be prepared to bring your Show and Share items to the meeting. Be sure to drop a completed Show and Share form off as you enter the meeting room. You can download a Show and Share form here and complete it in advance. Don’t have a printer? Pick up the form at the Show and Share table, but be sure to complete it and turn it in before the meeting starts. If you can’t make it to an in-person meeting or there isn’t an in-person meeting, submit your photos and project details via email to the Webmaster. As always, instructions for submitting your photos for posting are at the bottom of this page. A complete list and links to all Guild Photo Galleries can be found on the drop-down menu under the Guild Info tab.

Linda Hart models Seraphina Top, designed by our own Irina Anikeeva. Knit in 100% cotton St. Tropez by Holiday.

Linda says she was drawn to this pattern by the lace on the top of the sleeves.

Virginia Wilson cradles her Emotional Support Chicken Penny, a Rhode Island Red. The pattern from Annette Corsino was worked in vintage mohair from the Weaver’s Guild Stash Sale and stuffed with kapok. Virginia plans to add a Plymouth Rock to the flock.

Stacy Mann worked (and worked, and worked) this Milton duster in stripes of merino/silk and mohair/silk. The design is by Joji Locatelli.

Karla Alvey models her Emma top from Cocoknits, worked in Lana Grossa Cool Merino. She finished this top at Molly Conroy’s workshop.

Karla folded the neck edge, used short rows at the back hem, and finished the hem and sleeves with I-cord. Her coordinating skirt is sewn from estate sale indigo fabric.

Sue Kristiansen models the Salty Air Tee designed by Samantha Guerin. Sue found the “favorite color” meino yarn for $10 at our January Stash Sale!

Nathine Nelson made her Polynesian sweater in Concept by Katia Denim, a cotton/linen/rayon blend.

Nathine Nelson worked Cocoknit’s Portia vest in Knit Picks Upcycle Alpaca Blend, a sport-weight mix of wool, alpaca, and acrylic.

Karen Bochinski used a variety of stitch dictionaries from the Guild Library to design her collection of beanies, all worked in Ewe Ewe Wooly Worsted. She is looking forward to Nacy Bates’ class to further her designing skills (although we think she is already doing great!).

Susan Billard completed a Stephen West MKAL, Glittering Snowscape, in Miss Bab’s Yummy 2-ply. She followed the written pattern using size 4 needles and calls it “challenging — but worth it!”

Susan Billard used a beautiful pallette of Miss Bab’s Yummy 2-Ply for the Secret Forest shawl by Lisa K. Ross. Susan says the pattern is well-written and that she got “great yardage” on #5 needles.

Susan Billard survived Sharon’s Road Trip, a Casapinka pattern, by shortening it slightly at the end. Still she says it was a fun pattern, worked in Miss Bab’s Yummy 2-Ply superwash merino.

This Chic poncho was designed by Yumiko Alexander. Theresa Kotanchek says she purchased the kit in 2018 but only began knitting it last June. The yarn is DanDoh Linen, a 100% linen worsted.

Of course, when Theresa wanted to make it longer she discovered that the Green Natural color had been discontinued! Fortunately, Molly Conroy and Hands On Knitting came to her rescue, locating one more skein at a different LYS.

Renate Kamm selected the Helle shirt designed by Veera Välimäki and worked it in Kraemer Yarns Tatamy Tweed, a cotton/acrylic blend.

The shirt is worked sideways, and Renate says the pattern is very easy and fits well (once she reduced the fabric under the arms by about 6 inches on each side).

Sue Tavaglione worked this (discontinued) Feather and Fan Lacy Stole pattern by Trudy Van Stralen for Louet Sales in Fibra Natural Flax, a linen yarn. She says this is her first experience with linen and that, while it’s a little rough on the hands, finishing it in the washer/dryer (!) truly softens the yarn and evens out the lace. She anticipates many ways to wear this lovely shawl.

How to Submit Your Photos: Photos can be submitted via email attachments to the Webmaster. For clarity, image file sizes should be greater than 500 kb. Keep in mind when you take your photos that projects show up best against solid contrasting backgrounds. Include in your email a description of your project, pattern and designer name, yarn used, how you came to knit your project, and any other information you wish viewers to know. Be sure to include your name in your email! Tip — no need to complete a Show and Share form for virtual postings — just send in your project information in the body of your email.

* Did you know? If you have the option, take your photos with your phone. Smart phones have much better cameras than iPads or tablets and are as good if not better than many digital cameras! You can email photos directly from your phone, no need to download first — just include your project information in the body of your email.

There is no set deadline for submissions; photos are posted according to the month they are received. Projects received by the 4th Monday of the month will appear in the next month’s News Blast.
