Philanthropy News

January 4, 2020

Philanthropy in 2019 and Looking Forward.

Ginny Newton

What a very generous Guild we are. 2019 was unbelievable, and I expect 2020 will be just as wonderful. The items donated this past year include: 235 hats, 250 scarves, 25 blankets, 27 baby sweaters, not to mention socks and booties. At this time we also have almost enough squares to make 8 more blankets for Project Linus.

During 2019, we donated to various organizations, including Emilio Nares Foundation/Rady Children’s Hospital, Bundles for Babies, Project Linus, South Coast Hospice, Light Bridge Hospice (blankets for veterans), Women’s Resource Center of Oceanside, Encinitas Community Resource Center, Stuff the Stocking (for school children at the Monarch School for homeless kids), and Showers of Blessings.

In 2020, we will most likely donate to the same groups, AND, if anyone has any other suggestions, they will be welcome.

Please note that Arlene Shaposhnick has generously volunteered to co-chair our Philanthropy Committee, so feel free to communicate with her as well as me.

And, finally, don’t forget Eileen Adler’s Bust Buddies and Softies. I know she has a group of truly dedicated knitters who don’t need to be reminded, but if you are new to these, check the website for a free pattern.

Feel free to knit at home or in other groups as you are inspired. We will have quarterly gatherings again this year where we can meet for snacks and inspiration.  Watch the newsletter and website for dates and locations. As usual, we will have patterns AND YARN available at those meetings as well as at every regular Guild meeting. I have a ton of nice acrylic just donated.
