Encinitas Community Center, 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive, Encinitas, CA
88 Attendees
At 12:35 PM Co-President Renate Kamm called the meeting to order.
Debbie Cravets, Retreats Co-Chair, announced the opening of sign-ups for our Winter Treat in Temecula. She was enthusiastic about the good food and natural beauty of the Viña Lestonnac Retreat Center in Temecula. Plus it’s a wonderful way to build friendships and camaraderie among guild members.
Colleen Lukoff, Philanthropy Chair, gave a touching account of how our knitted donations bring happiness and joy to so many people. Last year we donated 833 articles. Tania Marshall, Co-President, went on to describe how our stash sale leftovers are used by knitters in Chula Vista who donate hats and other articles.
Renate Kamm described the joy she had being the guild’s San Diego County Fair Co-Ordinator last year. She would love to have someone take over in 2025 so that they, too, could have similar heartwarming experiences.
Nancy Bates, our guest speaker, gave a slide presentation in which she showed how her hat designs managed to capture the uniqueness of each of our national parks. Just amazing! It was interesting to hear how her business grew out of obscurity, plus it was touching to hear of the support she got from her husband and daughters.
Programs Committee Member Denise Caballero gave a preview of our upcoming programs for the rest of 2024. Cecilia Campochiaro will be presenting a program on October 29 on Stitch Evolution: From Sequence Knitting to General Reversability. Of course, we have our Holiday Luncheon in December and our Cast-on Party in January.
Sydnie Wauson emceed our Show and Share. Tania Marshall, Karen Bochinski, Rilla Livingston, Cary Sullivan, and Dani Donnachie brought their Nancy Bates hats which were displayed on a side table.
Renate Kamm adjourned the meeting at 1:48 PM.
