First 2019 Meeting is January 8!

December 14, 2018

Brandy Velten, Founder of Long Dog Yarn is Guest Speaker!

Long Dog Yarn, an indie dye company based in Los Angeles, specializes in spectacularly speckled yarns. Learn the story of Long Dog Yarn and “long-dog” Rufus when Brandy Velten visits the Guild on January 8. Brandy will speak about her interesting career path to independent dyeing and present a trunk show of her yarns. Yarns from Long Dog Yarn will be available for purchase at the meeting; bring cash or credit cards.

Brandy first began dyeing yarn as a way to channel the anxiety of the graduate school experience and express her growing adoration for the fiber arts and yarn. After finishing her PhD at the University of Toronto, Brandy’s passion for dyeing quickly took over and Long Dog Yarn was officially born in the spring of 2016. Combining her artistic expression and eye for color with scientific precision honed in the laboratory, Brandy creates speckled and tonal hues in a variety of a fiber bases. Long Dog Yarn has now grown into a full-time job, enabling Brandy to spend her days hand-dyeing high quality yarns out of her home in sunny Los Angeles.

Learn more about Brandy Velten and Long Dog Yarn on Ravelry ( brokenhallelujah ) and Long Dog Yarn website.

Our January meeting will also include a business meeting when there will be an election for Guild Officers. The slate of Officers including President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary and Program Chair is here. Also posted is a list of volunteer coordinators and chairwomen.

The Guild membership year is February 1 through January 31. Guild membership renewals are due by the end of this month. Renew at the January meeting (check and exact change cash) or do it right now and avoid the line at the meeting by mailing in your completed Form and check. Whichever method you use, click on the Form to download and print a 2019 Membership Form.

Pick up your Namebadge at the meeting and take it home!  Keep it in your knitting bag and wear it to the next meeting and workshop. Learn more about Namebadges here.
