Recap of Susan Lazear’s Presentation to the Guild
In November, we welcomed back one of the Guild’s first speakers, Susan Lazear, Professor of Fashion and owner of Cochenille Design Studio, which has developed pattern making software and designing aids for fiber enthusiasts.
Integrating textile designing techniques to knitwear, we can “change up” our garments to make a piece that is fashionable and not boring. Susan presented many examples and ideas to inspire us. We can start by building on a simple rectangle as our canvas and employing basic principles on proportions, such as Fibonacci Sequence or Golden Ratios or Means to break up your space. Then add color, embellishments, panels, stripes, gussets, texture or pockets and embrace the surprises.
Susan taught two workshops for the Guild: “Build and Expand on a Base with Simple Shapes” and “Lagen Look”. More information on Susan can be found on her website Cochenille.com.
