In Case You Missed It – Assia Brill’s Visit to the Guild

May 29, 2023

Assia Brill Visited the Guild Virtually May 2nd

Assia Brill

More than two-thirds of the members polled at the May 2nd meeting said they enjoy learning new knitting techniques. They got a wonderful opportunity when Assia Brill presented “Distitch: A New Knitting Concept.”  Distitch, which Assia developed in 2012, is a new way of making loops in knitting and crochet that provides structure, warmth, strength and beauty.

Assia, who spoke to us via Zoom from the UK, gave us a close look at distitch and how she developed it.

Distitch in Colors

Her explanations, drawings and examples were excellent. She compared distitch to conventional knitting stitches and showed us how it can be used for ribbing, brioche or stranded knitting on all or part of a garment.

Originally from Russia, Assia learned to knit at school when she was seven years old. She has been a passionate knitter ever since. Her book, Distitch: A New Knitting Concept, was published in 2019.

Assia loves to learn about everything. She gave us a fascinating look at the methods she uses to try out new ideas and create new techniques.
