Minutes of the General Meeting
Tuesday, February 3, 2026,12:30 p.m.
Encinitas Community Center, 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive, Encinitas, CA 92024

129 Attendees

President Mary Barranger called the meeting to order at 12:32 pm.

Theresa Kotanchek, Program Chair, introduced this month’s speaker, Amy Snell, aka The Devious Knitter (deviousknitter.com). Theresa noted she first met Amy during the Bay Area Yarn Crawl at Uncommon Threads in Los Altos. Amy’s presentation, “The Right Yarn for the Job,” dramatically illustrated how yarn choices affect the look and wearability of your finished project.

After the presentation, Theresa noted there were only a few spots left in Amy’s Wednesday and Thursday workshops. She went on to outline the upcoming programs for the next few months. Variations from our normal meeting and workshop routine are as follows:

Romi Hill is our March speaker and will teach a workshop on the morning of the general meeting Tuesday March 3 in addition to her Wednesday and Thursday sessions. The Wednesday workshop will be an all-day event.

Stephen West will Zoom with us from Amsterdam on April 14 at 10 a.m. Note this meeting will be on the SECOND Tuesday of the month and will start earlier to compensate for the time difference. All participants must be Guild members to register for the Zoom event (NOTE: look for details in the April News Blast — Webmaster).

Mary Barranger made an urgent plea for a volunteer to assume the vacant position of Holiday Luncheon Chair.

Colleen Lukoff, Philanthropy Chair, detailed the Guild’s 2025 charity donations. Overall, Guild members (and organizations they work with) donated 1,556 items to 19 different charities. The Guild website will post the information about those charities and our recent donation history (NOTE: see this article — Webmaster). Colleen also noted she gladly accepts gently used clean items. So, if members have finished projects that just didn’t work out for them, she can put them to good use.

Mar Gee Farr, Membership Directory Chair, noted Feb 3 was the cut off date to be included in the 2026 printed Guild Directory.

Sydnie Wauson, Webmaster, emceed Show and Share.

Mary adjourned the meeting at 2:06 p.m.
