Introduction to Spinning: Fiber to Yarn!

This will be an in-person workshop held at the Jewish Community Center in La Jolla. We need advance notice of how many participants there will be so Stacy can order the kits ahead of time. Sign up soon, please!

In this class you will have the opportunity to learn the art of spinning fiber into yarn. With the simplest of tools and fiber we can make magic. Putting twist into fiber creates yarn. A kit for purchase will include a spindle and some fiber, specifically chosen for beginner spinners. We will explore the basics and experience this ancient practice.

Bring some knitting needles in sizes 6-8 in case there is time to knit your very own yarn.

                        A few examples of projects, made in Stacy’s own hand-spun yarn:

Spinning has a learning curve so don’t feel discouraged. It is a process and an art, and we will explore it together. The morning session will be devoted to spinning; there will be a break for lunch and the afternoon session will be devoted to knitting up what was spun in the morning.

Homework: none

Materials and Supplies needed for the class: a beginning spinning kit will be supplied. Bring knitting needles in sizes 6-8

Materials fee: $20 for the spinning kit that will be distributed in class. The materials fee should be paid at the time of registration

Be sure to include your name, the name of the workshop, your email address and a telephone number. Payment is by check, made payable to SDNCKG – please write the workshop name and date on the check. Checks should be mailed to Mary Woo (address in your Guild Directory).Your registration is guaranteed upon confirmation of receipt of your payment.

Cancellation policy: Please notify us as early as possible if you need to cancel your workshop registration. Refund of the workshop fee requires a cancellation notification at least 48 hours in advance of the workshop. Fees cannot be refunded for cancellations with less than 48 hours advance notice.
