
Modular Knitting with Negative Space

In this class you will learn a technique for working and creating negative spaces modular style without breaking the yarn or working intarsia. You will master the technique in class and later have the option of creating a wrap (for example, the Ten-Ten Wrap) using this innovative method for your knitwear.
Format: Lecture and hands-on learning
Length of class: 3 hours
Level of experience: Intermediate.
Skills needed: Know how to knit, cast on, bind off, increase, and decrease.
Skills learned:
• Several types of stretchy cast on methods
• How to create negative spaces in knit fabric continuously
• How to balance the knit fabric while adding the negative spaces
• How to calculate and create various shapes of negative spaces
• How to make the right yarn and stitch pattern choice when working patterns with negative space
Supplies for Class:
• 200 yards worsted weight yarn in several colors, preferably light and bright colors of bouncy, smooth, non-fuzzy yarn for swatching
• US 4 (3.5 mm) knitting needles
• US 5 (3.75 mm) knitting needles
• US 6 (4 mm) knitting needles
• Removable marker/ pin
Homework:
CO 45 sts using your preferred method of cast on. Work Garter St for 14 rows.
Class Size: 25 maximum
Class Fee: $35 for members (paid 2025 Guild membership required at time of registration)
