San Diego North Coast Knitters Guild
Minutes of the General Meeting
Tuesday, April 14, 2026,10:00 a.m. via Zoom
Attendees: 125 at peak with 110 still online at 11:00 a.m. The meeting adjourned at 11:11 a.m.
This meeting was one for the record books. Stephen West, our scheduled speaker, could not make the call as previously arranged and confirmed. Ever resourceful, we still had an informative and enjoyable meeting. Programs will attempt to reschedule with Stephen. [On April 16, all Guild members were sent a special message from the Board regarding the April meeting — Webmaster.]
Theresa Kotanchek, Programs Chair previewed future monthly events:
- May will feature Guild member and professional knitwear designer / author, Irina Anikeeva, who will also conduct workshops.
- June is our much anticipated Stash Sale.
- July is the Holidays in July Party.
- The August through November events are outlined on the Guild website.
Theresa teased some changes to this year’s Holiday Luncheon. The date is set for December 8, 2026. There will be a change of venue. Raenell Transue has stepped up as a co-chair but still needs more volunteers to help organize the event. [UPDATE: Nancy Hepp has agreed to co-chair; additional volunteers are still encouraged to pitch in! — Webmaster]
Jeanie Milliken briefed us about the June 2nd Stash Sale. The event will be open for shopping from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and is open to the public. The May Guild meeting will be the last opportunity to donate yarn to the sale. Jeanie is quite pleased with the overall quality and quantity of the yarns. She advises shoppers to come with patterns, as sweater and blanket quantities are to be had. As in previous years, there will be extreme bargains in the grab bags. Note that the prices marked, usually 1/3 the known retail price, will remain the same throughout the sale. The higher-end yarns that do not sell will be put back in storage for future events. Some yarn will be available for philanthropic use, however, anyone hoping to take yarns must be pre-approved by Colleen Lukoff, the Philanthropy Chair. Colleen notes who takes yarn and follows up with those groups for lists of what items were made with Guild yarn and to which organizations they were donated.
Jeanie will not be present during the sale. Laura Brubaker, past coordinate and the originator of the Blue Apron Posse / tally system, will be in charge. Roseanne Farnum, the 2027 prospective Stash Sale coordinator, will also be available to the team of helpers.
In lieu of the official program, Zoom participants dug out their Stephen West projects for a fun Show and Share. We also shared photos and memories from Stephen’s previous in-person visit from February 2016. Past President Sheila Kirschenbaum showed members how to navigate the Guild’s website to find photos going back to 2015 and shared the March 2016 photo album.
