In Case You Missed It – May 2025, Kristene Vejar Visited the Guild

In Case You Missed It — MAY 2025, KRISTENe VEJAR VISITED THE GUILD

Kristine Vejar WS2 7
Kristine Vejar “The Modern Natural Dyer”

Kristene Vejar presented Journeys in Natural Dyeing, showcasing the variety of colors possible from local plants. She focused on collaboration with designers and crafters and being in harmony with the environment. She spoke of her international travels working with indigenous artisans to create vibrant colors with readily available materials. Her shop, A Verb for Keeping Warm (Oakland, California) has an indoor and outdoor dye studio and an educational dye garden.

Her presentation featured her two books, Journeys in Natural Dyeing and The Modern Natural Dyer. She equated the first to a quick-bread recipe book and the second to a guide for sourdough. Both have information about dyeing at home and in more industrial settings.

Kristene’s depth of knowledge was fascinating, leaving all attendees eager to try some of her techniques — and, following the Guild meeting, to shop the AVKW trunk show! The next day, Kristene held two workshops where attendees got hands-on with her methods and went home with the beautiful results (see below).

For more information, visit A Verb for Keeping Warm’s website.
