DENISE CABALLERO, PROGRAMS CO-CHAIR 2025 – 2026

Denise is originally from Connecticut, where winters are long and cold. Growing up she was always doing one craft or another. Her mom, an avid sewer and knitter, taught her how to knit when she was very young. She vividly remembers her first project, a worsted weight purple scarf she thought was beautiful.
Denise’s career had her traveling weekly and she always brought along a small knitting project. She found knitting helped her relax and kept her occupied when not tending to business matters.
Her favorite projects are sweaters, but she also makes scarves, socks, hats, and blankets. Although her sweaters are primarily knit with DK yarn, her preferred yarn is fingering weight merino.

Just before the pandemic, the company Denise worked for filed for bankruptcy. Although she did a few contracting jobs, she found herself with a lot of free time and her knitting blossomed. During the pandemic, she delved into the test knitting community, finding the camaraderie especially welcome during that difficult time. She’s done multiple test knits for Kimberly McAlindin from Knit A Rainbow, Samantha Guerin, Kim Paquette from Indigo Knits right here in San Diego, Gabrielle Vezina, and Claudia Quintanilla from EweKnit Toronto.
Happily, Denise discovered our Guild’s website and gave us a try. She felt welcomed and appreciated the knowledge the other members shared. She jumped right in, signing up for workshops and a retreat. She’d found her family.
In 2024, Denise joined the Programs committee team led by Theresa Kotanchek and has worked to bring amazing designers to our monthly general meetings. She is now working many hours behind the scenes to make our website more efficient and to streamline online payments and workshop sign-ups. Her contributions have been so vital she became a Programs co-chair in 2025 and is now on the Guild’s Executive Board.
We are very lucky to have her expertise and energy ensuring our Guild continues to provide its members a wonderful experience.
