Membership – Join online with a credit or debit card! The online payment link for the 2024 membership year is on the Membership Renewal Page. Renewing by mail is not recommended due to issues with the postal service. Watch for the 2025 membership renewal link in late October.
Philanthropy – The knitters at Norman Park Senior Center crafted 179 scarves using (mostly) leftovers from our Guild’s Stash Sales. These scarves have been donated to Mexican Medical Ministries. You can bring your latest donations to the next in-person meeting or contact Colleen Lukoff to arrange a pick up or drop-off. Guild Retreats – Registration for our January 20-23, 2025 Winter retreat in Temecula begins October 1st. Retreat details can be found here.
Ravelry – Check out our Ravelry SDNCKG group page where you can find special announcements not available on the Guild website and a link to the Guild’s library on Ravelry. Members can post questions to Co-Presidents Tania and Renate (or post anything else, for that matter).
The Guild is on Instagram – The Guild has a social media account on Instagram. Expect to find announcements, reminders, workshop news, and more. If you have an Instagram account just scan the QR code to the right and click the follow button or search for SanDiegoKnitters while in Instagram.
Guild Library – The Guild has an extensive library full of knitting and crochet pattern books and related resources. It’s easy to check out books and pick them up (and later return them) at in-person Guild meetings. Details here.
Members Teaching Members – In the Guild’s efforts to revive this previously popular activity, the MTM page (found under the Calendar Tab – or by clicking here) was updated with a proposed list of classes and activities based on your input. All we need now are instructors and students! We need a volunteer to head up this effort for next year. Contact Tania Marshall for details.
September’s Show and Share can be found here. October’s Show and Share will be in person, so bring in your items to share and be sure to download and complete a Show and Share form here so you can turn it in as you enter the meeting room. Don’t have a printer? Pick up a form at the Guild meeting. If you can’t attend the meeting, you can still submit photos of your projects. Instructions for submitting can always be found at the bottom of Show and Share pages. Links to older galleries going back three+ years can be found here.

Did you know? We have a number of talented Guild members who are published designers, starting with Co-President Renate Kamm (Ravelry ID oberpfalzerin). Others include Irina Anikeeva (hibis411), Mary Martin (MaryWMartin), Cally Monster (Monster Knits), Wendy Gaal (Knitters Brewing Company, Ravelry ID socalknitgirl), and Claudia Carlson (FibertoFabric and inventor of the Needle Keeper) to name a few. Around the Internet
The SoCal Fiber Fair is returning for a second year on November 23-24 at the LA County Fairgrounds in Pomona. Tickets are available on the Fair’s website here. The fair was created by our October 1 speaker, Nancy Bates, and her daughters. Check out the gift with purchase of fair admission!

Quilter Activities – For members who quilt – you can find news about local quilting events on the Guild’s Ravelry SDNCKG group page in the discussion topic “Quilt Notices.” Check our Ravelry Group page for any update.
Local museums:
- Until November 30, the William D. Cannon Art Gallery (a program of the City of Carlsbad’s Library & Cultural Arts Department) presents Fiber in 3D, featuring contemporary dimensional fiber works by over 25 national artists.
- Mingei International Museum has a new cafe! The Mingei is a wonderful museum of arts and crafts, located in Balboa Park. Check it out at Mingei.org/whats-on.
- Visions Museum of Textile Art. Visions is a great textile museum in Liberty Station. While its focus in the past has been largely on art quilts, the museum has expanded its “vision” to include all fiber arts. In recognition of its expanded scope, Visions renamed itself Visions Museum of Textile Art and has a new website VMOTA.org Check it out!
