In Case You Missed It — “MISS BABS” AUSHERMAN Visited the Guild SEPTEMBER 3

Callie Monster’s Surfliner shawl

A big crowd was on hand at the September 3 meeting to see Babs Ausherman of Miss Babs Hand-Dyed Yarns and Fibers present “The Color Journey of Miss Babs.” She was accompanied by Veronica Ory, who has worked with Miss Babs for 12 years. A highlight was when member-designer Cally Monster presented her special design, Surfliner, using Miss Babs yarns.

Miss Babs took us on a journey of her life in color. She loved color as a kid, she said, and returned to it in her 40s when she learned to spin. She couldn’t wear the ecru color of the wool she was spinning, so she learned to dye, first with natural dyes and then with acid dyes. From her kitchen, her dye business has grown until she now has formulas for hundreds of colors.

Miss Babs takes us on her Color Journey

She talked about how she finds inspiration for color all around her. She loves putting colors together. There are more colors in her memory, she said, waiting to come out.

Shopping the Miss Babs Trunk Show

Before and after the meeting, members browsed the beautiful yarns and sample garments at a huge trunk show. Many of us left the meeting with a lot more yarn than we arrived with!
