Second annual Interfaith Community Services Change Your Mind Festival

The Guild participated in the second annual Interfaith Community Services Change Your Mind Festival on Saturday, May 6. The event was in support of Mental health awareness month and our role was to promote the craft of knitting as a potentially calming activity. I allege that any swear words uttered in frustration when a project goes awry is also quite cathartic. The venue, Junior Seau Oceanside Pier Amphitheatre, was right on the beach affording the volunteers a most pleasant afternoon of music, dance and overall laid-back fun.
Volunteers, Diana Rathbun, Karen des Jardins, Rilla Livingston and Tania Marshall used a basket with donated needles and yarn prepared with the garter stitch to encourage event participants to try their hand at knitting and to pass along information about our Guild. This year, most of the folks that stopped by were in their teens and early 20s. Many had tales of a beloved family elder who knit or crocheted.
