2023 Phishing Scam

February 28, 2023

Phishing Scam

Updated 7/5/23.

Update – due to recent scam activity, email addresses appearing on the website are going back to the format [position]ATSanDiegoKnittersDOTcom which are not clickable. You’ll need to convert such addresses to standard format, substituting @ for AT and . for DOT.

This past month there were emails sent out to all the Guild chairs allegedly from the co-presidents. Those who responded to the email were then asked to send “us” money.

Two things to remember, our alias emails on the website are RECEIVE ONLY and all those emails are forwarded to our personal email addresses. Any email from a Guild officer will be sent from their personal email address. Also, no Guild Board member will ever ask you for money. All Guild expenditures are Board approved and funded.

Clues that an email is a scam: the email expresses urgency, discourages the recipient from contacting the purported sender other than by reply email, and requests gift cards be purchased. If you receive such an email, do not reply, just delete it.
