About Stacy Mann
“I am a maker. I love to make things. My goal at some point in my early years was to live a creative life. For better or worse, that goal is realized. Whether it is with friendships, found objects, paint, ink, yeast or yarn, I have devoted my life to learning to make things.
“My interest in spinning was ignited in recent years by the overwhelming amount of bad art done on paper and the challenge to make a garment out of an untraditional material. I proceeded to cut the art into strips and spin it into paper yarn. It was indeed a challenge. There is a lot to learn when you set a challenge for yourself, especially when you really don’t have skill in a new, to you, process. I did succeed and my paper yarn knitted shawl was in a show at the Visions Quilt Gallery [recently renamed Visions Museum of Textile Art.]
“From that day forward, my interest in spinning was more traditional and I signed up for the Adult Education Spinning class with Margaret Tyler through the Grossmont Adult Education program. I like to spin yarn I want to knit with, nothing fancy, nothing crazy, just basic and, to me, beautiful.”
Stacy will present a full-day workshop at the Jewish Community Center in La Jolla. Please note: as of this posting on 8/22/23, the JCC still has their vaccination policy in place, so all participants will need to show proof of vaccination upon entering.
