2021-10 Philanthropy

A warm summer for knitting and now it’s already fall! Where did the time go? The spotlight on the philanthropic activity of a guild member last month was also a reminder to get a mammogram!
In August and September, 199 knitted and crocheted items were donated to Knots of Love, Emilios Nares Foundation at Rady Children’s Hospital, and VAMC San Diego Volunteer’s Office. Thank you to all the philanthropic knitters for your generous and beautiful donations.
At this time, desired knitted items for donation include:
1) comfort scarves, dimensions of 5-6 inches wide, 50 to 60 inches long, done on large needles, size 10 or greater
2) lap blankets
3) hats all sizes
4) socks
5) baby items.
I will be at the Solana Beach Library in lower level parking lot on Tuesday October 19, from 11 am to 12 noon, details can be found here. I will be outside in the shade of a tree knitting – please join me, bring a beach chair, sunglasses and water. The library is open, but not for groups. The meet-up is for you to donate your completed knitted items and to obtain free yarn and patterns.
If you have suggestions for other outdoor sights for a knitting meet-up, please send me those suggestions.
If there are guild knitters who have items to donate I would be happy to pick them up, just call me or write to me at PhilanthropyATsandiegoknittersDOTcom. Contact information is also in the Guild directory.
Thank you,
Debbie Vacek
