First up – Greetings from Our New Philanthropy Coordinator, Debbie Vacek!

I am just getting oriented to the role of Philanthropy Chair. I so appreciate the turnover and support of Ginny Newton. I have some big shoes to fill! I have inherited the equivalent of four large ice chests of yarn, with much more to come. Last week I received the first donation of yarn, with myself at the helm. I have also received three, partially completed, beautiful crocheted blankets. If there are crocheters who would be interested in completing these, please let me know ASAP.
The distribution of knitted items will continue to the organizations currently supported by the Guild’s philanthropy knitters. Another group of people to think about knitting for right now, as an expression our gratitude, are the nurses and health care providers who are working so hard for us.
Since we are home knitting and streaming movies I found a wonderful movie recently that gave me inspiration. It’s on Netflix “The Kindness of Strangers”. When the little boy who was in the women’s shelter received a knitted hat, it was very moving.
Please contact me for ideas and suggestions. I can be reached at the Guild’s Philanthropy email address below, or check your directory for my direct contact information. Thank you!

And next, news from Tania Marshall regarding a JCC philanthropy project:

“The JCC posted this photo on Facebook December 24. The Guild and individual members contributed the yarn and needles to make this a success, along with over half of the finished items.
Thank you all! We will continue crafting throughout the winter at least.”
