Xandy Peters’ Visit and A preview of 2021 Programs

The Guild had the honor of hosting Xandy Peters on December 1st. Their topic, “Unexpected Knitting” was very inspirational. Xandy guided us through their background of college (industrial design), footwear design and then knitting. The main emphasis of Xandy’s work is stitch design rather than pattern design.
The four important points of Xandy’s presentation:
Try things more than once, do it many times. The more you do it, more inspiration might happen!
Keep your mistakes!
Find inspiration in places you would not usually look.
Do something else entirely and ideas will pop up!
— Laura Brubaker, Programs
The pins Xandy wore caught the eyes of Guild members who asked where the pins could be found. The answer is shinycraftypeople.com and also on Xandy’s website at XandyPeters.com. Xandy’s inspirational designs can also be found on their Ravelry page.

After Xandy’s presentation, we watched a fun farewell video from Laura Brubaker and Sue Zois in which they “put a fork in it” – Laura and Sue are done! Laura and Sue are looking forward to the next two years with Lou Wanna Katz, Nancy Lerer, and Mary Woo as Program Chairs. Sue and Laura deserve a big round of applause for the past two years of Guild programing, and for guiding the Guild (with lots of help from Karen des Jardins and encouragement from Carol Myers) in its transition to on-line meetings and workshops.

Nancy Lerer gave a brief overview of the planned program for 2021. The year will begin with an international tour of the knitting world – something which could not have been done with in-person meetings. The location of some of our speakers and time zone differences will necessitate shifting the time of some of our meetings and workshops. For example on February 2nd, Melanie Berg will present to the Guild from Germany, a nine hour time difference. Melanie’s presentation will begin at 12:00 noon PST. Other speakers may also require a time change, so be sure to read upcoming announcements carefully, and mark your calendars! You won’t want to miss a thing!
You can always preview upcoming meetings by visiting the Guild website. An overview of the entire year can be found under the Calendar tab at 2021 General Monthly Meetings. Check back periodically for schedule updates.
