What Should You Make for Philanthropy?

WHAT SHOULD YOU MAKE FOR PHILANTHROPY?

In 2024, Guild members donated 1,071 items to 15 different charities. Folks frequently stop by the Philanthropy Table and ask “What is needed most?” The answer is simple: Needs are great and varied.

Colleen Lukoff and a small number of the Philanthropy items our Guild has donated.
  • Smaller items like hats, scarves, and baby things are always in demand.
  • Items don’t need to be perfect. We just want to ensure that everything is serviceable and clean (preferably new), so we can find a home for it.

If you want to try something new, check our patterns or ask about specific requirements. For example:

  • If you want to make hats for active duty soldiers or veterans, use #4 worsted weight yarn and do not add any top ornamentation.
  • Baby items should be machine-washable.
  • A label with care instructions is always appreciated, so both Philanthropy and the recipient don’t need to guess.

Each charity has its own criterion; drop off your gift at any meeting and we will donate it to the most appropriate of our non-profit partners. If you would rather give to your own favorite non-profit organization, just let us know so we can count it.

As you plan your crafting for the year – and further support the Guild by shopping the Stash Sale – we hope you will consider making an item or two (or more!) for others, knowing your efforts will be appreciated. Feel free to stop by and learn about some of the newer projects we have added to the mix, pick up a pattern if you wish, and admire the contributions of other members!

Thank you for thinking of others and for supporting the Guild’s Philanthropy efforts.
