2024 HOLIDAY LUNCHEON FASHION SHOW

This year’s Fashion Show featured the beautiful garments and accessories we’ve come to expect from our talented members and guests. You had to be there to fully appreciate these items, but here’s a review of each entry and some details from the makers. Click on any photo to see a larger version.

1. Lupe Smith, Twenty Four Birds Mystery Shawl by Helen Stewart

Lupe used skeins from two gradient sets of Sunshine Yarns, Ocean Love Fade Set and Summertime Smoothie.

2. Mary Brown, Point of View cardigan of her own design.

Mary used stacked mitered 3/4 squares in stripes that are knitted together with 3-needle bind off. Her signature circles appear on front panel, collar, and cuffs.

3. Colleen Davis, Colorful Cardigan in yarns from Barbara Chapman’s stash (gifted by Karen Henderson). This is Colleen’s tribute to Barbara.

Colleen used yarns from Barbara Chapman’s stash in a tribute to Barbara.

5 and 6, Lisa Schick and Sharon Hunt in their Niya cardigans from Shellie Anderson. Lisa used Shibui Cima; Sharon used Rohrspatz & Wollmeise Blend.

7. Jennifer Dorsey in Selbuvott (Selbu Mittens) designed by Skeindeer Knits and made by her daugther Emily.

Emily used Rauma 3 tråds Strikkegarn, a Norwegian DK wool, for this pattern which is available on Ravelry.

8. Kim McIntyre’s Rolling Waters scarf designed by Marin J. Melchior. Kim used Louisa Harding Yarns Amitola which she says is a delight to work with. Kim added an i-cord bind off.

9. Eileen Adler in a blazer of her own design in Berroco Vintage. Knitted in seed stitch with a shaped hem and large collar adorned with fabric pins bought in Spain. There’s a lace panel on the back.

10. Mary Howell in her Killim cardigan, a Fair Isle Club KAL.

Mary used 10 colors of British Best Breeds wool.

11. Eileen Adler in Still, I Rise – a CocoKnits sweater.

Eileen used Unger Cozy, a discontinued yarn from her stash.

12. Laura Brubaker made Julie Weisenberger’s Emma sweater from Habu Linen Paper wrapped in Silk. She says it’s stiff and difficult to work with, but she likes the end result.

13. Mary Barranger’s Emma is in Juniper Moon Farm Bud cotton. She added ribbing at the neck, sleeve, and waist.

14. Sheila Kirschenbaum’s Emma is a cardigan in mystery stash/stash sale yarns. All of these Emmas were inspired by the August 2024 Guild workshop from Hands On Knitting.

15. Sheila Pisa made her Emma from Tahki Tandem and added i-cord bind offs.

16. Sylvia King’s Emma is in Trendsetter Yarns Bacopa. Sylvia (and all the others) learned a new method for an improved fitting garment from their Guild workshop!

17. Nancy Nevin made Nancy Bates’ Grand Canyon hat from stash.

She says it’s “a fun pattern that has inspired me to make more hats and use up stash.”

18. Renate Kamm models a yet-to-be-named vest of her own design made from Sueno Tweed by HiKoo. It’s gender neutral and she plans several more.

19. Sue Kristiansen’s Stripes Gone Crazy cardigan is from Alfa Knits.

The Retrosaria Rosa Pomar Mondim is a wool from Portugal. Sue says the short rows were fun to knit and the sweater is fun to wear.

20. Mary Brown in her self-designed Flower Garden cardigan, made from stash yarns.

The colorful piece uses short rows and the left front features Kaffe Fassett’s Persian Poppies.

21. Lupe Smith in Spilll the Tea by Marie Greene. Lupe says this is supposed to be a 4-day sweater but it took her longer; she used Sew Happy Jane wool.

22. Colleen Davis in her self-design Crocheted Duster.

Colleen used many “glitzy” yarns from Barbara Chapman’s stash — another tribute to another master artisan.

23. Sharon Dintaman in Gemstone Soup, a Cindy Craig design made by her mother Colleen.

Colleen used more yarns from the Chapman stash, gifted by Karen Henderson.

24. Sheila Kirschenbaum in the Caribou Hills pullover by Caitlin Hunter. Sheila purchased the Island Fibers yarn (before finding a pattern to use it) while on vacation in the San Juan islands off the coast of Washington.

25. Sydney (from La Valle Pro Shop) in the Edwin vest made by Sandy Yayanos from Simplicity by Hi Boo.

Sandy says you must like cables to make this, and she made it twice after not checking gauge!

26. Sandy herself in Who Ya Gonna Shawl, a Mary Annarella KAL.

Sandy used various Baah Yarns and says that with color and stitch patterns always changing, she was never bored.

27. Kristin Dressel made Dee O’Keefe’s Kassiani shawl from Travel Knitter, a 100% baby camel.

She says “If {the yarn] wasn’t so expensive, I’d work with it all the time because it’s so yummy and luscious to work with!”

28. Mary Howell in a jacket of her own design.

Mary used Rowan Summer Tweed, an Aran weight silk/cotton.

29. Laura Brubaker obviously loves her Joinery top from Yumiko Alexander.

She used Purl Soho Field Linen and would love to make the pattern again.

30. Mary Brown’s Lilly sweater is a memorial to her knitting friend, Lilly Woodward, who passed away earlier this year. Many of the yarns are from Lilly’s stash. The sweater is a gift for their mutual friend Karen Rood.

31. Susan Bowers made Mary Martin’s New Leaf Wrap, an “amazing pattern.” It’s B-I-G but perseverance = success.
