Notice regarding change to Guild email addresses on our website.
On Saturday morning, January 30th, fraudulent emails were received by several Guild members and a few non-members. A special News Blast announcement was sent to all members regarding this incident.
We believe that scammers have scraped the names, offices, and Guild email addresses from the Guild website and are sending fraudulent emails asking for the purchase of gift cards as a “Guild donation” to a non-existent charity. Several Guild officers and others have received these emails.
If you have received one of these emails as well, please immediately delete that email and/or mark the sender as spam. Do not reply to fraudulent email! It should go without saying that the Guild will never ask you, via email, to purchase gift cards on the Guild’s behalf. If you have any questions or concerns about this incident, please contact Sydnie Wauson, Vice President or Tania Marshall, President.
In the meantime, as a security measure, Guild email addresses on the Guild Officers and Coordinators page and the Contact the Guild page are being reformatted such that addresses are no longer live links and cannot be recognized by scammer “bots” as email addresses. Email addresses on individual pages will also be changed as needed. The Guild understands this makes contacting the Guild more difficult, but feels this is the best way to address this issue for the time being.
Guild contact email addresses will now appear as “Name AT SanDiegoKnitters DOT com”. To contact a Guild officer or coordinator using one of the Guild email addresses, you will need to type in the actual email address into the address line of your email, changing AT to @ and DOT to . with no spaces. You will no longer be able to click on an email address to generate an email, nor can you just copy the email address to paste into your email message. The 2021 Guild Directory will not be impacted by this change, nor will the News Blast.
