SLIP STITCH COLORWORK – WINTER SUNS SHAWL
Introduce yourself to a world of colorwork with the Slip Stitch Method! This particular method was developed by Olga. She will walk you through the entire technique in this workshop, providing tips and tricks to ease your way into it. You will become the master of proper tension and learn how to manipulate your fabric regardless of your yarn choice, to achieve the most consistent and perfect results while making your own version of the Winter Suns Shawl. You will also learn how to adapt and shape it to your liking. You may choose to start the entire shawl or work on just a swatch to learn the technique

Level of Experience: Intermediate. Student should have basic knitting skills, including knit, purl, cast on, bind off.
Skills Learned: Slip stitch colorwork basics, pick correct yarns and textures for working colorwork, special method for trapping long floats in colorwork for maintaining perfect tension, read slip stitch colorwork chart, customize finished accessory to taste, work I-cord bind off.
Materials and Supplies to Bring to Class:
For Winter Suns Shawl: Finished Measurements – Wingspan: Approx. 70.5” (76.5”), depth at widest point: Approx. 33” (37”)
Size Small: Approx. 980 yds of fingering weight yarn for MC and 250 yds of DK weight yarn for CC.
Size Large: Approx. 1150 yds of fingering weight yarn for MC and 320 yds of DK weight yarn for CC (95 yds for CC1, 110 yds for CC2, 115 yds for CC3).
Swatch Only: Approximately 100 yards fingering weight yarn and approximately 50 yards of DK weight for CC.
US 5 (3.75 mm) 24” or longer circular needle for stockinette stitch section, US 4 (3.5mm) 36” or longer circular needle for colorwork section, an extra US 5 (3.75) needle or DPN for I-cord bind off, crochet hook size F, scrap yarn, tapestry needle.
**Note: Purchase Winter Suns Shawl pattern prior to class. The pattern can be purchased on Ravelry, when single patterns become available February 20th. Bring either a printed copy of pattern to class (preferred for taking notes), or, a previously downloaded digital copy on an electronic devise (wifi may not be available in class room.)
Materials fee: * None, but if starting the Winter Suns Shawl, pattern must be purchased prior to class. See availability under Note above.
Cost: $30 for members ($55 for non-members which includes Guild membership through 2020)

** Location of this workshop: 501 N. El Camino Real, Encinitas, in the community room of the San Diego County Credit Union building (map link is below.) SDCCU is 2.7 miles north of Temple Solel on the north east corner of El Camino Real and Garden View. The community room is on the first floor on the north side of the building. Park in the upper level parking lot and take the ramp across to the building (there is an elevator to the first floor inside) or walk down the stairs from the parking lot and enter the back of the building. Walk down the short hall and the community room will be to the right.
