From ginghams to tartans, plaids are super hot on fashion runways these days. Join Melissa and learn several ways to develop, design, and knit these updated classics. And don’t get your needles in a bunch: Many of the methods do not require juggling a million balls of yarn per row!

Level of Experience: Intermediate.

Homework:  Four Swatches – see below.

#1: With smooth worsted weight yarn and appropriate-size needles, cast on 23 stitches. Work K1P1 Rib for 1″. Begin Stockinette (knit one row/purl one row) and work even for 4 rows. Slip stitches onto a holder with the yarn attached.

#2: With smooth worsted weight yarn in pink, light gray, light blue, or lavender, and appropriate-size needles, cast on 23 stitches. Work K1P1 Rib for 1″. Slip stitches onto a holder with the yarn attached.

#3: This swatch will use 4 colors of worsted weight yarn (A, B, C, and D) and appropriate-size needles. With A, cast on 24 stitches. Work K1P1 Rib for 1″. Begin Stockinette, and work 4 rows with A. Continuing in Stockinette, change to B and work 1 row; change to C and work 6 rows; change to D, and work 1 row; change to C and work 6 rows; change to B, work 1 row; change to A, work 6 rows. Bind off with A. Block swatch.

#4: With smooth worsted weight yarn and appropriate-size needles, cast on 23 stitches. Work K1P1 Rib for 1″. Slip stitches onto a holder with the yarn attached.

Materials and Supplies Needed for Class: Four homework swatches; class handout printed in color (this will be sent to students after they register for the class); worsted weight yarn in white/cream, red or dark gray or navy, or purple; worsted weight yarn in other solid colors; appropriate size needles; size 7 or 8 double-pointed needles or circular needle (any length); size I/9 crochet hook; blunt tapestry needle with wide eye; sticky notes; scissors.

Materials fee: None.

Cost:  $30 for members ($55 for non-members which includes 2022 Guild membership.)

Class size:  30.

Be sure to include your name, the name of the workshop, your email address and a telephone number. Payment is by check, made payable to SDNCKG – please write the workshop name and date on the check. Checks should be mailed to Mary Woo (address in your Guild Directory).Your registration is guaranteed upon confirmation of receipt of your payment.

Cancellation policy: Please notify us as early as possible if you need to cancel your workshop registration. Refund of the workshop fee requires a cancellation notification at least 48 hours in advance of the workshop. Fees cannot be refunded for cancellations with less than 48 hours advance notice.
