Tips for Knitting with Hand-Dyed Yarn

If you’ve ever knit with variegated yarn, you know that it can make stripes or have pooling of colors. This can be disappointing if you don’t like the results.

Get lots of easy ideas for using hand-dyed yarns in ways that will show them off at their best. Learn how to use simple techniques that give you control of the beautiful hand-dyed yarns you love. You will learn to understand the way these yarns are made, why they do what they do and how you can predict the outcome. The different types of variegated yarns will be explained as well as how to identify yours.

You will see dozens of swatches or garments that show not only pattern stitches that work well for these yarns, but other ways to show the yarns to their best. The emphasis is on combining hand-dyed yarns with other accenting yarns and using simple, easy patterns. The easiest knitting will look so dramatic with these yarns.

Materials

• Bring a variety of multicolored yarns, all of similar weight. Bring several sizes of needles ranging from 6-10.
• Handouts will be provided in class.

No homework.
