Minutes of the General Meeting
Tuesday, April 2, 2018
Temple Solel
President Tina Rounsavell called the meeting to order at 12:33 pm. Tina reminded everyone to silence their cell phones. She recognized new members and guests. Tina then introduced Programs Co-Chair Sue Zois.
Program Co-Chair Sue Zois introduced speaker Cecelia Campochiaro who spoke about “Sequence Knitting.” Cecelia is a retired scientist who brings her analytical and creative thinking to knitting. She explained how her science background and artistic family influenced her and showed numerous illustrations of her “sequence knitting” and how it allows for a vast array of shifting patterns. Her next projects involve color, especially marls.
After the presentation, President Tina Rounsavell conducted the business meeting.
Member badges: Membership Coordinator Nancy Nevin explained that members will now keep their own name badges and that each name badge will have a sticker attached that indicates the membership year. She encouraged everyone to wear their badges at all Guild events. She announced that the 2019 membership directories were available for members and reminded everyone that the directory was for member use only.
Stash Sale: Coordinator Lou Wanna Katz announced that the May general meeting is the last time members can drop off yarn for the stash sale. She explained that there were bins just inside the gate for yarn drop off today. She reminded everyone to bring friends and neighbors to the stash sale and that only cash and checks will be accepted.
San Diego County Fair: Coordinator Jan Davis confirmed the fair dates: June 19, 20, 21, 22, 23. This year, the Guild will have a dining table and chairs with extra chairs for fair goers and a locked display case. Jan asked that members bring items to display to next month’s meeting; she requested that members put their names on all items they loan for the fair. Jan reported that she needs about 20 members to volunteer for the fair and had a sign-up sheet. She will assign shifts later. She encouraged members to submit entries for the fair competition; those who submit will receive one ticket for the fair per item.
Members Teaching Members: Co-Chair Maria Hoham reminded everyone that Karen Bochinski will teach a MTM class on spinning cotton on Tuesday, April 16, and that there are only 6 places. Check the website for details.
Programs: Co-Chair Sue Zois announced that Cecelia Campochiaro will give three workshops and that there are still a few places left. In May, Deborah Jarchow, a weaver, designer, and creator of wearable art will be the speaker and will offer a day-long workshop. Check the website for details.
Terri Cupurdija of Twisted Sisters (Escondido) announced that the Twisted Sisters warehouse is closing at the end of April and everything is for sale on April 26, 27, and 28. Check the Twisted Sisters website for details.
